My Birthday

Ok, so if you haven't guessed by now, it's my birthday today (22nov). Yup, i'm now a quarter of a century old... Funny, i don't feel any different...
I guess birthdays have kinda lost it's significance for me over the years. Used to be the case when I looked forward to prezzies and cake and parties and stuff... To tell you the truth, a week ago i had forgotten my birthday was even coming up. It wasn't till my mum asked me one arvo what I wanted for a present did I finally remember.
Anyway, the day's almost over and i haven't done anything particularly special to comemorate it... Just as well i guess, haven't been in much of a celebratory mood anyway.
Started my day at 7am (earliest i've woken up in weeks). I've had what I thought was a corn on the sole of my left foot which was causing me alot of pain while walking. It's been there almost a month already. I think it was caused by my army boots. Anyway, my mum decided it was time to see a doctor about it and broght me down to the local poly clinic at 8am. So yes, spent the first few hours of my birthday sitting in line waiting to see a doctor for 5mins. About 2hrs later, i was told that it was a wart and had to be surgically removed. So now i have an appointment tomorrow evening for the procedure... hmm, might not be able to walk for a while after though.
So anyway, got home around 10:30am, had an early lunch of nasi lemak then went back to bed. Several birthday smses from friends woke me up at around 4pm. Decided to get up and finish up some publicity work for church. Xia called around 5+ and we chatted about the usual stuff... Hmm, didn't even get any spring onions... (inside joke)
Parents leaving to teach their dance class now, and bro in camp, so i guess i'll spend the last 4.5 hrs playing FFXI online... actually, not that bad a way to waste time...
Birthdays are over rated anyway...

And so it came to be,

that on this very day, exactly 25 years ago... a child was born into this world... The child grew up, made new friends, lost some along the way, and struggled to find the meaning of his existance. He studied hard, learnt many different things, but in the end found his calling in art and cooking. He traveled the world only to end up where he first began. Alone again, he prepares to turn over a new page in his life...

Spoilt teens

Haha, so i've been on leave since the start of november and haven't bother to update. 
Wasting my time bumming at home playing Final Fantasy XI among other things. Woohoo, Level 52 Whitemage/Blackmage!!! Ok, so most of you have no idea what that really means... Anyway, that's a pretty decently high level for a character lah. Also took me since the start of august to get up to this level so yay for me! 
Yesterday (121105) marked the first day of the Youth CaFE pogram in my church. The crowd we had were mostly sec 2-3s though we had a bunch of older teens as well. It's strange, sometimes you don't realize how much you've changed as you get older until you see those younger than you behave the way you used to behave, then you think to yourself: OMG, I can't believe I was like that once. Hmm, does that make sense?
Anyway, I guess all things considered, our team did a really great job and all deserve a pat on the back for their efforts. I guess being somewhat of a perfectionist, I might have been too hard on myself that the session did not seem up to my expectations. I still do feel that alot more improvements could be made. Overall I felt that the teens were being spoonfed too much and thus not taking the time to think through the difficult issues of their faith enough. And really, some of these kids are really spoilt brats!
I mean, our team put in so much time, effort and money into decorating the church auditorium to make it look like a real cafe. We had tablecloths, nice tealights and coasters on each table, even nice printed stationary and everything. And how do the teens treat the stuff? Well, 3 burnt coasters and one singed tablecloth later and I was really ready to smack a few of them. I mean really!!!
Anyway, the first session is over so at least we know what to expect now. No more tablecloths or tealights in the coming sessions... I guess all we can do is pray to God more that he will help these teens see that we are doing all this for them becos we care, also that he might work to soften their hearts to the message we want to deliver, A message of God's existance and undying love for us, his children. So yeah, any prayers if any of you could find the time would be greatly appreciated...
Officially out of the army on the 28th of this mth, which sadly means there'll be more pressure from parents to get a job.
Didn't get to celebrate Halloween again this year... dunno if I ever will get a chance again, what with everyone getting older and busier and all...
Finally got a new computer. 3Ghz, 1G ram, Good graphics card and DVD burner rom. So yes, Dupey, currently in the process of burning all my stuff out of my portable harddisk onto DVDs. I'll send you a list soon of the stuff i have and you can see what you want ya? You can do the same for me too once your exams are over. Heard a few people have finished with their exams and stuff... Can't wait for everyone to come home... really miss you guys!

Finally an update!

Hi all! Man I haven't been updating in a long while. Well, there's a good reason for that... OK, so laziness and procrastination is not exactly a good reason... still, i'm updating now aren't I???
Been spending alot of time at home. Yes, I know I'm supposed to be in the army... I officially ORD (leave the army) on 28th Nov, and since I have 14 days of leave and 13 days of off to clear, I actually don't have to report back to camp from now till then. However, I'm still helping out with a final video project for my Commanding Officer's change of command ceremony at the end of the month, so I'm actually busy with work at home. I guess i'm quite lucky... most people would take a year to accumulate more than 10 days of off, I got 13 in just 2mths!
But ya, took alot of hard work...
On the Church front, I've been involved in several things.
First, I'm going to start teaching secondary 1 Cathechism classes starting January 2006. Also, due to a shortage of experienced/confident catechist, I'll be overall in charge of that year's cohort o.O. Talk about jumping in the deep end! Anyway, I am quite looking forward to it. In the mean time, am swamped with leader's meetings, briefings, etc...
The second thing I will be involved in is RCIY (Rite of Christian Initiation for Youths). This is a program where mature Catholics 'journey' with those seeking to join the church. So we will attend church classes with them, attend mass with them, and generally help and encourage them along their way. I'm also on the organizing committee for this, so yes, more work/meetings/briefings...
Last, the RCIY committee is also starting up Youth Cafe. Basically it's every saturday evening and will be a time when youths get together for some food, live band playing christian music, and get to discuss various topics on their faith. I will also be one of the main leaders for this project. I'm most excited about this becos I think it has alot of potential to grow. Apparently we will be the first Catholic church in singapre to have such a program in this format and alot of other churches will be looking at how we do before considering implementing it themselves. Anyway, more work/meetings/briefings... Ah well, all for the glory of God eh?
I realize now how valuable my time in Sydney has been. FOCUS afterall did equip me with much of what I needed to know to help run all these different activities. Though I'm not sure how many FOCUSers would actually approve the things I'm doing now. Hmm... Irony... Oh well...
So yes... see, i'm actually quite busy loh...
